Science Curriculum Aims

Curriculum Objectives

The Primary Science curriculum is designed to enable students to:

  • Cultivate curiosity and interest in the world of science, fostering a foundation for lifelong learning.
  • Develop scientific inquiry and problem-solving skills, mastering fundamental scientific knowledge, process skills, and generic capabilities.
  • Synthesize and apply knowledge and skills across science and related disciplines, gaining an initial understanding of the nature of science while communicating scientific ideas through basic scientific language.
  • Conduct rational analysis and reasoning based on data and logic to form independent insights, while developing introductory engineering mindsets and practical skills.
  • Recognize the impact of science on society, ethics, the environment, and technology, fostering a responsible civic attitude committed to personal and community well-being.
  • Promote self-directed learning to become lifelong learners in science, facilitating continuous personal development.
  • Prepare for advanced scientific studies at the secondary level and potential future careers in scientific and technological sectors.

 

Learning Objectives  

We aspire for our students to achieve the following:

  • Mastery of Foundational Knowledge: Acquire basic scientific knowledge and understand common scientific phenomena, facts, patterns, concepts, and principles encountered in daily life.
  • Scientific Inquiry and Knowledge Construction: Learn to utilize scientific methods for inquiry and knowledge building, and become proficient in using simple scientific terminology and modes of expression.
  • Practical Application: Apply scientific knowledge and technological products to solve simple problems in everyday contexts.
  • Evidence-Based Judgment: Make informed and judicious decisions based on factual evidence and scientific data.
  • Design and Investigation: Plan and conduct simple scientific investigations, including observation, measurement, data recording, and reporting. Students should be able to provide simple explanations or reasonable inferences based on results while reflecting on the inquiry process.
  • Values and Attitudes: Uphold a rational and objective mindset characterized by a spirit of seeking truth. Students are encouraged to maintain a persistent curiosity in science and technology, alongside a profound respect and care for all life and the environment.
